Outreach video: Subduction earthquakes and Seafloor Roughness

Elenora van Rijsingen (ESR6) made an outreach video of her PhD, for the geological video constest ‘On the Rocks‘, organized by the Geological Society of Italy.

Subduction zones host the largest and most devastating earthquakes on Earth. It is important to understand where and when these earthquakes are most likely to occur. One parameter that is thought to play a role in this, is the roughness of the subducting seafloor. In this video, I take you on a journey from space into the lab, highlighting the different methods that I use to study the effect of seafloor roughness on the occurrence of subduction earthquakes.
